Introduction
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) established three new Central Forensic Institutes (CFIs) in the year 2011 at Guwahati, Bhopal and Pune under the Directorate of Forensic Science Services (DFSS), New Delhi. The CFIs were notified as Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs) in 2013. The scientists of CFSLs examine exhibits forwarded by the investigating agencies, render examination reports/opinions and substantiate in the Court of Law through court testimony. The laboratories also undertake R&D work in the grey areas of Forensic Science to develop forensic science in the country.
Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of new building at Kamrup (near Guwahati) on November 29, 2014, and he inaugurated the building on March 06, 2019. The CFSL Kamrup aims to propagate and carry out credible forensic science practices in the country, especially in the North-Eastern region. The jurisdiction of CFSL, Kamrup is the eight North-Eastern states of India: Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
The CFSL Kamrup provides dependable forensic science services to the justice delivery system. This helps provide justice to the people in the North-Eastern states through the aids of science. We are also committed to introducing the latest scientific techniques in the investigation of crime and for the administration of justice by modernising/upgrading CFSL in respect to human resource development with the latest scientific technology.
